What is an e-cigarette?

​

  • E-cigarettes "e-cigs", produce an aerosol by heating a liquid that usually contains nicotine; the same addictive drug in combustible cigarettes, cigars, and smokeless tobacco. 

​

  • Synonyms for e-cigs: vapes, vape pens, mods, tanks, tank systems, and electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS). 

​

  • E-cigs come in a variety of colors, shapes, and offer numerous flavorings for users. 

​

  • E-cigs can also be used to deliver marijuana and other types of drugs. 

 

E-liquid Ingredients

Along with nicotine, e-cigarettes can contain harmful and potentially harmful ingredients, including:​

Formaldehyde:

  • A toxic chemical that is used to preserve animal specimens

​

Nicotine:

  • An addictive chemical that changes the way the brain works

​

Diacetyl:

  • Used to add butter flavor but it is harmful when inhaled

Acetaldehyde:

  • A toxic chemical that is a cancer-causing agent

 

Toxic Metals:

  • Tin

  • Cadmium

  • Lead

  • Mercury

 

Flavorings:

  • Directly drinking flavored e-juice is toxic, especially for small children

  • Inhaling the chemical is also toxic
